About this trip

2024 will mark our sixth trip to beautiful Tuscany and we couldn't be happier to be heading back to one of our favourite places with a new group of excited vegans!

Rolling hills, stunning sunsets, castles galore: there is nowhere more beautiful to visit than Italy. But regions like Tuscany can be incredibly difficult to visit as a vegan.

In 2024, we will once again call beautiful Panzano our home, and we're thrilled that we'll have the opportunity to indulge in a mouth-watering menu of veganized Italian food prepared by our very own private vegan chef, the fantastic Gabriele Palloni. Not only that, Gabriele will also show us a thing or two when it comes to traditional local cooking!

As always, we'll reside at our home away from home, Pensione Vignamaggio, and throughout the trip we'll embark on a day of vegan wine-tastings, traverse the varied landscape of colourful Cinque Terre, go on a guided tour of historical Florence and so much more!

Italy is truly an amazing destination and we can't wait to grab a glass of wine and watch the sunset together.

An Italian Plantasy 2024

Have you been dreaming of the perfect, 100% vegan holiday in beautiful Italy? Well you're in luck! From August 3-10, 2024, you can join us on this plant-filled adventure with Sara Tercero from Better Food Guru AND Richard Makin from School Night Vegan! With their quick wit and immense vegan food knowledge, we're thrilled to have two incredible vegan food and lifestyle experts join us in one of our favourite locations.

Guests of this experience will have the chance to participate in two cooking demo experiences (one with each of our hosts), on site at our beautiful hotel, Pensione Vignamaggio, with the help of our wonderful in house vegan chef Gabriele Palloni.

As always, we'll have the opportunity to indulge in a mouth-watering menu of veganized Italian food and throughout the trip, we'll embark on a day of vegan wine-tastings, traverse the varied landscape of colourful Cinque Terre, go on a guided tour of historical Florence and so much more!

We can't wait to see you for a glass of wine while we take in the beautiful view on the Tuscany countryside this summer.

We had a fabulous time. The accommodations were comfortable with a beautiful view. The excursions were incredible. The Valle Verzasca hike was a highlight. The food was delicious. Everything was well planned out. Fun getting to know new friends.

My fourth time with TGC and it did not disappoint. Another excellent trip put together by Amanda and the Team. This was an amazing and unique experience that took us to a beautiful part of the world, very grateful for what was created for us and being able to travel as a vegan in a part of Switzerland that is only just starting to understand what Veganism is and provide options. Waking up each day on this trip was a delight, each day a beautiful sunrise over the lake starts the day along with an amazing fully vegan breakfast created by the Hotel staff. Our Tour leader was wonderful giving so much attention to us all to ensure we had the best time in her town. The activities both included an optional were excellent especially if you like Hiking and nature this trip has it in abundance!! Having Richard Makin with us on this trip was highlight in itself, his cooking demo was something that I won't forget getting to see him show off his passion for food and learn is inspiring. Thank you again for an amazing Experience

A good trip in a gorgeous setting with great people. I would choose the getawayco again but would probably not do this exact trip again. The people- amazing. Lauren and Erin were wonderful hosts. Kim was so charming and thoughtful. They all worked really hard to make the trip as fun and inclusive as possible for all. The setting- gorgeous! The sunsets, the rooms, the beach day at cinque terre. I’m so grateful to have been able to see these sights in my lifetime! The food- omg don’t get me started! So delicious. And what a treat to not have to worry about what you’re eating in a typically not-vegan-friendly country (which was the main reason a lot of us booked this trip, myself included)! The activities- a mixed bag. The wine tasting was really nice! It was great to have farm to table pairing on a lovely outdoor terrace. Be prepared to hear the story of Chianti Classico a dozen times this trip haha (it’s an interesting story!) Cinque Terre was amazing and well-planned. Absolutely loved every second, every capirinha, and every bite of spaghetti on the beach. The night at the animal sanctuary, including the overly affectionate cow, was so beautiful. The day in Florence was okay but could have been better. Our only tour was impossible to follow due to cheap audio equipment (despite asking for, and trying, an exchange in earpiece), which was really disappointing. I know my spouse and I were not the only one having issues, several others split off from the tour early due to lack of audio. Free time- I was able to book lunch at Libreria Brac in advance via email, and was glad I did! One of the best meals this trip (and that’s really saying something because the food was all amazing). We also went to the Uffizi, which was crowded on a Tuesday (busiest day of the week for the museums in Florence) but still impressive. All of the getawayco organized transportation was seamless and comfortable. The optional activities were generally fun but could have been a lot smoother. While they are not hosted by the getawayco I’m surprised the company did not personally check them out prior to recommending them to guests to make sure description was accurate and quality was high, which was always the case with the other vegan travel company I’ve tried (world vegan travel). Had I known they were not officially endorsed and actually more of a suggestion, I would have used my time differently- at least on some days. The wine trekking- don’t be fooled by Europeans who claim it’s more like a walk, this is a walk that includes a moderately steep hiking portion lol. If you have trouble with heat or slopes, you may want to skip this one. I was so glad I brought my portable fan, as it was unshaded and about 35C/95F. That said, it was a stunning view and the guide was really great. He was incredibly passionate about local history and loved sharing bits here and there throughout the tour. And each winery we visited was so warm and welcoming (with great wines- the third place had my favorite wine of the trip, a Chianti rose). Probably would have been the best day of the trip if we had cooler weather Hot air ballooning was so sick, I can’t believe more people didn’t do it (it was hella expensive though). So so cool. Bring binoculars! The excursion to San Giminiano and Siena should have been fun. There were some things I loved- the towns themselves were SO cool, like walking through history (with an aperol spritz in hand, of course!). There were more things that could have been better- the guide and transportation were disorganized and had never visited or looked up our lunch location. Originally they wanted us to walk about 1.5-2 miles total (in the unshaded heat) to and from lunch because they weren’t sure the vehicle would make it down the gravel road to the restaurant. Lunch was not included in the quoted price when booking the activity, and we were booked at a fancy restaurant (I Pini)so be prepared to add another 65-105 euro to the cost of the outing. One of the best salads of my life but the rest of the items were lackluster or straight up disappointing (I’m looking at you, you poor excuse for tiramisu 😭). Maybe if Gabriele hadn’t spoiled my palate with the excellent hotel fare I’d enjoy it more. By the time lunch was done many of the people on the tour were hot and sour, so unfortunately our time in Siena was cut short and we returned to the hotel early. Overall it was a very solid trip! Having reliably vegan meals is huge when traveling, but I wish other parts of the organized trip were more consistently good too. I’d give the getawayco another try but would probably ask more questions before signing up for any of the optional activities. Not a critique but a request- I wish they’d increase the price just a tad to include tips for staff (tour guides, drivers) so we didn’t need to worry about it and knew we were being thoughtful guests 😊

I just got back from my first trip with The Getaway Co to Switzerland, and I'm already looking forward to my next! I traveled alone and was a bit nervous to join a group of people I didn't know, but everyone made me feel so welcome. It was a great experience to be among empathetic, like-minded individuals. The activities that were planned were amazing (I got to hike in the alps!), and all of the food was vegan so I didn't have to worry about what to eat. Every detail was planned out for me, so all I had to do was show up. It was honestly one of the best trips I have ever been on. I can't recommend them enough!!

I went in the Herbivores in Helvetica tour in 2025. No one else is offering tours of the Italian part of Switzerland, this tour is so unique. The views from the hotel and each of our activities and excursions were stunning. There was a lot of walking but they gave time to rest before dinner each day and we had two free days to choose what to do. There was a variety of seeing cities/towns, hiking in nature, and touring museums and gardens. The food included a variety of traditional Swiss and Italian dishes but all vegan! The breakfast buffet was amazing. The hosts sought feedback throughout and were very helpful whenever I asked a question. The group size was perfect, I got to know a great bunch of vegan folks from all over. There was a heat wave so I was sweaty and hot a lot of the time but no one can control that. I think better the heat than not being able to be outside due to rain or something like that. I would go on another tour with Getaway Co if the dates, location, and price worked with my needs in the future.

An Unforgettable Plant-Based Croatian Adventure – Like Traveling with Family! My recent trip to Split and Dubrovnik with The Getaway Co. was absolutely phenomenal – a truly seamless and delightful experience from start to finish. From the moment we landed at the airport, we felt completely taken care of, which set the tone for a perfectly stress-free vacation. Our stay at the Time Boutique Hotel in Split was incredibly comfortable and exceeded all expectations. Not only did they provide the most amazing plant-based breakfasts each morning, but the hotel's central location was an absolute dream. We were able to walk to almost every place we wanted to explore in Split, making our sightseeing effortless and enjoyable. As an unexpected, heartwarming bonus, the resident mama peacock and her adorable babies added a touch of magic we could never have imagined – truly a unique and charming highlight! The day trip to Dubrovnik was, again, incredibly well-planned, seamlessly transitioning us from Split and ending with our check-in at the amazing Hotel Mlini. This hotel is simply stunning, right on the water and beautifully appointed. You honestly don't even want to leave the balcony, wanting to soak in every soothing sound of the waves. It was also easily accessible to the old town of Dubrovnik and within comfortable walking distance to many of the fantastic restaurants we visited. Between our arrival and departure, there were simply too many incredible activities to mention! The Welcome Dinner and introductions in Split were a brilliant start, effortlessly bringing a group of mostly strangers together. It was incredibly encouraging and heartwarming to see that many of the attendees had previously traveled with The Getaway Co., speaking volumes about the company's repeat success. By the time we sat to enjoy the Closing Night Dinner, we weren't just fellow travelers anymore – we were all family. Thank you, Amanda, Marino, and Lauren, for an incredible time! You truly excelled at creating a worry-free, enriching, and incredibly connective journey. I started following The Getaway Co. on Instagram two years before I booked my first trip, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Do yourself a favor and follow The Getaway Co. so you can start planning your own unforgettable plant-based travel experience soon!

Croation plantasy - its over, boo! Next one please What a great trip, with some great people - again! I have read or two of the under 5* reviews and no disrespect to my fellow travellers ( who I quite like ) but this is not like the big travel co Jordan trip I did a year ago, run 10 times a year for a number of years, 2 big coaches of people, staying in multi hotels with all the boring drop offs, impersonal, average tourist restaurants.......this is a small hand crafted personalised trip run for the very first time in a Country with very few vegan options. Both hotels were running vegan breakfasts ( with choices ) for the very first time! If there were no plastic water bottles on the few times they were supplied there would have been a complaint we were all thirsty...... As for info on safety, jetlag, tipping - there is the internet and its no different to the last time people travelled long haul or on a foreign trip? More importantly the trip, there were 26 of us with the owner of the Getaway Co, a media influencer School night vegan, and Marino the local guide / organiser with us. It doesn't get any more personal than that. Like in the programme Cheers, its a trip where 'everyone knows your name'! We travelled up a mountain and Marino produced cushions to sit on the side of the mountain and eat a picnic lunch hand prepared by his mother! On the last night we had dinner outside in his families Olive Grove cooked off a calor gas stove, they had even made us a proper toilet. This isn't a commercial event space but a rustic home made local produce personalised event just for us. Again the tours of Split, Dubrovnik, Trogir ....were just for us, small group tours with local guides. There was some truly great food, and dramatic settings for food / picnics, fantastic scenery and some great fellow vegan travellers, now friends. It was that personal. What I like about these tours ( our 3rd ) is that there is a mix of sightseeing, food experiences, food demo, wine tasting, this time our own Catamaran Tour ( with homemade food and focaccia ) but there is also a fair amount of time to relax, do nothing or join an additional tour if you want to. There is something here for everyone and there is no pressure to participate. Its true that an optional excursion or the odd meal wasn't 11/10 - but this was the inaugural trip in a Country that is at the beginning of the vegan journey. As opposed to a global travel company, the owner was on our trip and those minor wrinkles will definitely be sorted for the next trip. In terms of the fully vegan restaurant in Dubrovnik, I also ate there when everyone went home. It was fantastic but there are only 8 seats outside not 26 so we don't fit! As for the alumni talk.....a third of the group were repeat customers - work that out people! In conclusion, great trip with some good food, great scenery, and a great bunch of people. We have done the Athens / Santorini and Marrakech tours and can't recommend them highly enough, along with the new Croatia trip. Do try it. We will be booking again on one of the other tours in 2025 ( maybe 2024 who knows ) !! 11/10
